OUR MISSION
“First Presbyterian Church believes that it is to be Christ for the world today ….” This is our most basic mission statement, reflecting what you might call an “incarnational” theology. When we say it, we mean that since Jesus isn’t physically present today, we are meant to be the body of Christ. Together, we are responsible to speak and act as Jesus would speak and act, serving as Christ’s ambassadors in the world around us.

As our new building was constructed, we added symbolic touches such as bricks from the old church in the footings, and the names of beloved saints inscribed on the concrete floor of the worship space. Such actions were ways of expressing the hope that we are building on a sure foundation. As the Apostle Paul wrote, “According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:10-11).
